Our Story

The Ty Lucas Foundation was established in April, 2010 in honor the life of Ty Franklin Lucas. Ty was born May 11, 2009.  On December 15, 2009 Ty passed away suddenly and went home to be with the Lord.  He was just over 7 months old.  His cause of death was Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome or SIDS is the leading cause of infant death, between 1 month and 1 year of age in the United States.  Approximately 1 in 2,000 infants are lost to SIDS each year.  SIDS is sudden and unexpected, and even after complete autopsy, scene investigation and review of medical history, no cause of death is found.  SIDS is a diagnosis of exclusion, assigned only once all known and possible causes of death have been ruled out.  At this time, there is no way to predict which infants will die from SIDS and no way to prevent all cases, though there are methods of risk reduction.

The Ty Lucas Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.  It is the goal of the foundation to provide for the needs of children and pediatrics in Madison County, while also raising awareness for SIDS.  Through the incredible generosity of many, the foundation has been able to raise over $75,000 since its launch in 2010!
